First day of Fall...The Market House.

So, for anyone who lives or has lived in Crawford County, Pennsylvania they know what a neat place the Meadville Market House is.  Built in 1870, the market house is Pennsylvania's oldest market house in continual use. It serves as a venue for sale of area produce and products, such as baked goods, maple syrup, fresh meats, and cheeses and fruits and vegetables.
So, this morning when I arrived at the market house, I realized that is was officially the first day of Fall.  The market house looked great!  It was filled with freshly harvested vegetables, maize corn wrapped in Autumn ribbons and beautiful Fall flower bouquets.  I love it!  The Meadville Market House is one of my favorite things about Crawford County.

For my unborn baby...

So, I am due to give birth to a baby in just a few short weeks.  The little one is scheduled to arrive on October 9th (John Lennon's birthday).  I have done a lot of thinking about this little critter and what I would like to say to it.  It has always been easy for me to communicate through photographs, so that is what I have chosen to do.  Above is my message to my unborn child.

A day at the beach

This was one of my favorite photos of August taken with my iphone. As I'm trying to get caught up on photos I've realized that August was a pretty awesome month. I didn't really take time to enjoy it, but I worked hard and worked on good projects. I have recently decided to change my direction a bit. I am reducing my hours at the newspaper to devout to the photo business. What is happening is I'm not able to keep up and I want to make important photographs for my clients and get them into their homes as soon as I can, my work at the paper slows this down terribly and affects my health. The folks at the paper are gracious enough to allow me to do this and still stay on as a part-timer. I love the work I do in this community for The Meadville Tribune and would miss it if I were to give it up completely. But in two weeks or so I'll change from being a full-time employee at the paper to part-time and be able to devout more time to my clients. I feel badly that it takes me so long to complete a project, so this is going to be a great thing as I'll be able to put 20 plus more hours in each week on my work. I can't wait to really make this business run smoothly and efficiently and continue to grow as a photographer.

Senior pictures

Over the last couple months I've photographed a lot of seniors. There are some similarities to the shoots, but even within some of the same locations and same photo schemes(like using the mirrors) I'm finding some individual uniqueness to them. Mat looked like an old school troubadour with his guitar and the split balance of the mirror seemed to give it an almost timeless quality. This has been my most successful of the double image shots I've tried. This particular frame was made with my iphone. I have been challenging myself to think about how it isn't the camera, or the phone or the app that makes a picture good, but the way the photographer uses it. I think art is made through the temperament of the artist and the subject, not by the materials. The same is true of cameras and photographers. Fancy digital cameras with a gazillion megapexels and 5,000 dollar lenses does not make someone a good photographer. Its the work, study and dedication to ones eye--ones vision that leads to successful image after successful image. Its work and challenging yourself. I'm seldom satisfied when I'm finished--I always wish I did this or that, but those become ideas for the next time. But in my drive to be better, I think it is fun to experiment and I really like making a handful of iphone pics each session--if for no other reason, but to post a fun picture or two on facebook! Some might end up becoming pictures we consider blowing up. SayerMotter Photograph by Richa

A day of paint

I haven't posted in awhile, not because I haven't been making work, but because, well I've been working too much. Soon I hope to get back into daily posting, but I am horribly behind and tremendously busy with work, business and teaching. Awhile back I worked on a project with a couple of friends and made this hipstamatic frame. I'm hoping to finish up soon with the 'big boy' camera picture sI took that day as well and help one friend begin her website. I also hope to make up for lack of posting by catching up with more posts and in some cases even back posting with images shot on those days. Like I said, I've been busy and have hundreds of pictures to post. This was a fun cell phone picture from a fun day awhile back! SayerMotter Photograph by Richard Sayer
