Over the last couple months I've photographed a lot of seniors. There are some similarities to the shoots, but even within some of the same locations and same photo schemes(like using the mirrors) I'm finding some individual uniqueness to them. Mat looked like an old school troubadour with his guitar and the split balance of the mirror seemed to give it an almost timeless quality. This has been my most successful of the double image shots I've tried. This particular frame was made with my iphone. I have been challenging myself to think about how it isn't the camera, or the phone or the app that makes a picture good, but the way the photographer uses it. I think art is made through the temperament of the artist and the subject, not by the materials. The same is true of cameras and photographers. Fancy digital cameras with a gazillion megapexels and 5,000 dollar lenses does not make someone a good photographer. Its the work, study and dedication to ones eye--ones vision that leads to successful image after successful image. Its work and challenging yourself. I'm seldom satisfied when I'm finished--I always wish I did this or that, but those become ideas for the next time. But in my drive to be better, I think it is fun to experiment and I really like making a handful of iphone pics each session--if for no other reason, but to post a fun picture or two on facebook! Some might end up becoming pictures we consider blowing up. SayerMotter Photograph by Richa
