Above is a photo of my Grandpa Pete. Today he turned 76 years-old. I have known Pete for quite some time now and he is always up to some sort of shenanigans. He is sure to have a smile on his face and a joke to laugh at. Happy Birthday Pete! "Ahhemmm...The moon is round has two eyes, a nose and a mouth."

I recently returned home from a trip down South. A series of tornadoes hit Alabama on April 27, 2011. Here are a few pictures that I snapped of the damage.

According to the U.S Department of Defense, he died from wounds he received when insurgents attacked his unit. The photos below were made this afternoon during a funeral processional in which his body was transported via hearse to Randall Funeral Home in Jamestown. I didn't know Mr. McClimans, but I couldn't help but feel a deep sadness for him and his family as his flagged draped coffin slowly passed through his hometown. Sue Wentz and Rachel Herrin share some smiles while rehearsing their lines for the upcoming Meadville Community Theatre production of The Secret Garden. The women were trying to be serious, forgot their lines and burst into laughter. Performances for the show are scheduled for May 6, 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21 at 8:15 PM and May 15 at 2:15 PM. For more information call 333-1773.
Meadville Tribune Photos By: Harmony Motter I guess I'll never hone in on one style and make it my own, I find interest in making images in hundreds of ways. I was looking at some Francis Bacon Paintings and he had a style and stuck with it--his techniques was such that when he experimented with it-it still looked like the same process and therefore the work was cohesive and consistent. I struggle with this because I am always trying to re-discover myself, always trying to change the way I shoot--perhaps looking for 'my style.' Not sure why, maybe its ADD or some other sense of wanting or discovery. I'll try anything that comes into my head and then usually I have to try it again to improve on it. I had this idea a while back to use white paint on face and I was hoping to make these both elegant and ethereal. Not sure what I did make out of them, I feel there is something here but I haven't found its form yet and I think somehow these will make their way into other work I do down the road. The best part of this sort of thing is what I learn that I can take into other shoots and other ideas. Now I have a little more know-how. Today is the last class meeting of my photo 1 class at Allegheny, and this is what I plan to discuss with them. Its only a beginning, and if they approach their work right--25 years from now will still only be the beginning as they will continue to strive to make work that isn't the same thing ovar and over and over again. I came of age in perhaps the most selfish time in American history--the 80's(maybe the 90's too can claim this). It was not my time. I didn't like most of what was going one, the popular music was....well lacking depth and I wasn't bright enough to find my way out of it. I envy kids growing up now--they can find anything there is out there via the internet...and though there are problems with this--its amazing what can be found. Music isn't controlled by the music industry anymore--it is out there for everyone to sample. Today I began making a wall of records, so I went through some old albums I have gotten over the years, seems I wouldn't turn down anything. I had music I know I've never really listened to more than once. After taking out the vinyl to nail to my studio wall I was going to store the sleeves away--and then thought why bother. I then thought about burning them and documenting that. I have several images that I liked out of this--this image of Styx Grand illusion album and one from Madonna and anther of Van Halen seemed to say a lot about letting the 80's go. I won't miss these albums, because I didn't really care for them in the first place. In the 80's, there was some really great music, but it wasn't really played on the radio back then---probably the same is true today...though I think more Violent Femmes are played on the air now than when they were first released in 80's.
