The other day I talked about shooters vs. artists who use a camera. I had a brief chat with a good friend today about it and we talked whether one is better than the other. From an artist stand point having the word art in the mix tends to make that work sound or seem like it would be better. But the 'shooter' sees life as something to document as it is and in that sense would think this is better. I'm certainly of the opinion that neither is better than other. They are both needed. Just like we need intellectual theorists and people who pick up the garbage. Neither individual is more important than the other because life depends on both. I think art is an extremely important part of our life--reflecting on life around us and representing in a form for further discussion. Just as shooters document life in order to allow us a chance to reflect upon it and instigate further discussion. The unexamined life is not worth living, and artists and shooters provide different aspects of viewing this life and allow us to examine it. Its quite interesting in fact how many ways there are to look at just one thing. To determine one way is right over another...well thats just arrogance. I remembered this picture that I took before Christmas and it is a shooters shot, but what we can learn about life looking at it is amazing and I'd be hard pressed to envision it and create it any better than just observing and making this picture with a twitch of my finger and a blink of my eye.
