I've been thinking about doing a presentation for the faculty show next fall called 'Anatomy of a piece.' I thought it would be interesting to take all the elements that go into making a piece. I think of these things as images built as if I were making a painting--layer upon layer of form and color and image. Each one starts out simple and then gets more and more complex and then sometimes I go back to simple. Each time is different and I arrive at conclusions and then move on--ever reacting to the combinations of thoughts. This one started out simple, then grew into a conversation I am having with myself about photography and what I ultimately want to do with it. I know that I want to create using photography, I want to continue to document, I want to use virtually all the vocabulary I've learned in image making and make and make and make. Today was a day--it sorta felt like this piece looks I think. By Richard Sayer
