On Saturday I photographed Randi and Mark's wedding in Pittsburgh. And today is Valentine's Day so this seemed appropriate. I loved helping out my friend Craig in shooting the wedding, though I think I did myself sitting back a little more than I usually do, partly not wanting to interfere with Craig's work, but also to try to get some of those shots off to the side and to watch and learn how Craig approaches subjects. I study photography and I really learn most watching others and seeing their work afterwards. Craig is a great photographer and this was a treat for me to watch him work and hopefully add a few things to the mix that I do well. One things I'm learning to develop is a post-production style of making things with the photographs. Its not work that we do for newspapers or documentary really, but its something people seem to like--sort of making designs and posters. It was hard for me to start making these because of my background, but like everything I learn--or seek to learn, I saw what was being done in the industry and wanted to find a way to ---hopefully---make it better. We'll see where it leads...at least today...it gave me a featured picture to post on Valentine's Day of two people in love and beginning their life together as husband and wife. Photo design by Richard Sayer.
